atmospheric reactions of nitrogen
atmospheric carbon dioxide
photochemical smog

2) analytical application
2.1) Field measurement of atmospheric composition
2.2) Fundamentals of infrared absorption spectroscopy
- Trace gases in the atmosphere
- In situ measurements
- Remote measurements
- examples of applications: Measurements of CH2O mixing ratios, Flux measurements of CH4, Measurements in the Antarctic polar vortex.
2.3) UV-Visible Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy (DOAS)
Principles
Applications
2.4) Fluorescence Methods
- Basic aspects of fluorescence measurements
- applications: The hydroxyl radical, nitrogen oxides, Detection of halogen compounds
2.5) Mass Spectrometric Methods for Atmospheric Trace Gases

Theoretical lessons will be integrated with laboratories exercitations: analysis of particulate matter (IC + SEM-EDAX)

Module B: classroom lectures and laboratory

Modalita' di verifica dell'apprendimento:

A final oral examination will verify the learning degree in terms of knowledge of the contents of the course, of understanding of their interconnections, and of ability to apply them in simple practical problems.
The final score will be the mean of module valuations
