REGIONAL ECONOMICS AND POLICY
The main goal of the course is the construction of the awareness on the opportunity of introducing regional economic policies, according to the existence of different models of local and regional development. Awareness about the opportunities to follow a “placed-based economic development” or a “development on the ground”. Knowledge about existing tools for policies and strategies of local and regional development.
Prerequisites for the attendance of the course is the knowledge of the contents of the courses of Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Economic Policy. The knowledge of the contents of the course of Development Economics should be useful.
Regional development models. Typology of local models of development. Firms and territory: the local productive system. Innovation and territory: issues for economic policies. Policies and strategies of local and regional development. Strategic planning.
Lectures and case-studies discussion (44 hours), plus visits to areas and firms (8 hours).
Final written and oral examination. During the course discussions of specific “case-studies” using articles and other teaching materials will be organized. Moreover, during the course, specific discussions on different issues will be organized to test the learning process and the reaching of the goals of the course.
A recommended reading list (with books and articles published in international journals) will be available at the beginning of the course. Moreover some additional teaching materials will be available in the e-learning site.
